|ICSWHK 2013 – 2nd International Conference on Solid Waste 2013: Innovation in Technology and Management|
The “2nd International Conference on Solid Waste 2013: Innovation in Technology and Management” was held on 5-9 May 2013. The Conference was organised by Sino-Forest Applied Research Centre for Pearl River Delta Environment (ARCPE), Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong SAR, and P.R. China.
The conference had many papers presented on various issues related to innovation in waste treatment technology. The conference papers were classified into many sub-categories, namely; Waste Management and Strategy, Education and Awareness, Climate Change and GHG, Waste Collection, Segregation and Characterization, waste Utilization and Recycling, Sludge Management and Treatment, Hazardous and Industrial Waste Management, Anaerobic Digestion, Composting, Biological Treatment and Bioproducts, Biochar, Landfill Management and Leachate Treatment, Bioenergy, Thermal Technologies, E Waste and Construction and Demolition Waste.
Prof C. Visvanathan participated and presented a paper on “Material flow based priority setting for plastic waste management in Thailand”. This paper used Material Flow Analysis (MFA) as a tool to quantify stocks and flows of plastics, and set the priority areas for plastic waste management i.e reducing the plastic stockpiles in landfills and open environment through higher recycling and energy recovery options.
